MAC is more than a fitness facility — it’s a lifestyle destination.

Life gets stressful. Taking a few minutes for yourself can make all the difference in your day. After your workout, take a break in our new lounge area, enjoy a steam or sauna, get a massage or join a health and fitness workshop.

SAUNA / STEAM / SPA

Our Jacuzzi spas are always at a comfortable 104° F temperature and are available in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms for privacy. Spas are great for muscle soreness, lower back pain or injury rehabilitation.

The men’s locker room also features a steam room, which is beneficial for people suffering from muscular tension. It also has a highly beneficial effect on the skin. The moist heat stimulates the subcutaneous blood flow and cleanses the skin intensively, opening the pores, removing dead skin and impurities and leaving the skin feeling soft, clean and smooth.

The women’s locker room also features a sauna, which has been show to increase performance in endurance sport, increase plasma volume and red cell volume in athletes, decrease systolic blood pressure, significantly improve exercise tolerance, increase peak respiratory oxygen uptake and enhance anaerobic threshold in chronic conditions.

HEALTH + FITNESS WORKSHOPS

MAC’s philosophy is based on a holistic approach to health and fitness. We offer a variety of health and fitness workshops throughout the year, for no additional charge, from diet & nutrition to stress management and more. Sign up to receive emails notifying you about such events or check the bulletins throughout the club.

LOCKER ROOMS

Our contemporary locker room facilities are spacious and comfortable. Steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi spas, showers and many other amenities enhance the lifestyle experience at MAC.

MASSAGE

We believe everyone should be able to take advantage of the wonderful therapeutic and stress relieving benefits of massage therapy. We are committed to ensuring that every time you visit, you enjoy a caring and healing experience provided by a professional massage therapist.

PRICES

½ Hour - $25

A half-hour session is ideal for spot-specific injuries. IT band syndrome, calf problems, back pain, hamstring strains and almost any type of muscle injury you can imagine can be treated. We have either seen your injury before or, more importantly, had it ourselves so we know exactly what you feel and what it takes to help fix it.

1 Hour - $50

The perfect length for a maintenance session to keep injuries at bay, work on your flexibility, recover from hard workouts and relieve stress. We focus on the areas that chronically plague you and become overused and tired during sports activity. A one-hour session rejuvenates your body and allows you to get back to training hard.

90 Minutes - $80

Does it ever feel like everything in your body hurts from your head to your toes? The 90-minute session is perfect for you. In addition to making sure we cover all the sport-specific tension areas, we hit every muscle group thoroughly and leave you with that "ah, I can breathe again" feeling.

STYLES

MAC offers a variety of massage styles. If you've never had a professional massage therapy session, we thought it would be helpful for you to know what to expect on your first visit. We have a wide variety of massage techniques, so you can choose the one that’s right for you.

Trigger Point Massage

A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point in the back, for example, may trigger pain in the neck. The neck, now acting as a satellite trigger point, may then cause pain in the head. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache. Trigger points are caused by muscle overuse or injury, and because the aches are associated with moving parts, the pain is commonly mistaken for arthritis. Trigger point massage is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. In this type of massage the recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort. The result of trigger point massage is the elimination of toxins in the muscles and the release of energizing endorphins. A significant decrease in pain is often found after just one treatment.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is the style that comes to mind when most people think about massage. It was developed in Stockholm a couple of centuries ago and is the most common and best-known type form of bodywork performed today. The goal is relaxing the entire body and this is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Additional techniques include circular pressure applied by the hands and palms, firm kneading, percussion-like tapping, bending and stretching. Lotion is often used to reduce friction and stimulate the skin. Swedish massage is exceptional for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage but is used to target knots and release chronic muscle tension. Other benefits include reducing inflammation and helping to eliminate scar tissue. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). Deep tissue massage uses strokes across the grain of the muscles, not with the grain as in Swedish massage. The more intense movements and techniques such as deep finger pressure may be slightly uncomfortable and cause soreness that lasts a couple of days before resulting in the desired relaxation and pain relief.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is geared toward athletes of every kind, from world-class professionals to weekend joggers. The particulars of the massage are specific to the athlete’s sport of choice and are often focused on a particular troublesome area like a knee or shoulder. Aspects of massage are gaining popularity as useful components in a balanced training regimen. Sports massage can be used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. Athletes have discovered that specially designed massage promotes flexibility, removes fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares them to compete at their absolute best.

TANNING

Many of our busy members prefer to tan in our new Sun/Dash 252-Radius tanning unit. This unit delivers a beautifully even, full-body tan in 12-minute exposure schedule for tanners who are on the go.
